Course Overview

1. Vernier Calipers:

Purpose: Used for measuring lengths and diameters with greater accuracy than a meter rule, especially for small dimensions.
Components: Vernier calipers have two scales: a main scale and a vernier scale.
Reading: The vernier scale allows for readings to a fraction of a millimeter (e.g., 0.1mm).
Applications: Measuring external diameters, internal diameters, and depths of cavities.

2. Micrometer Screw Gauge:

Purpose: Used for even more precise measurements than vernier calipers, particularly for very small dimensions.
Components: The micrometer screw gauge has a spindle, anvil, sleeve, and thimble.
Reading: The reading is taken from the sleeve scale and the thimble scale, which is then multiplied by the least count (0.01mm).
Accuracy: Highly accurate, with a least count of 0.01mm.

3. Expressing Calculated Values:

Standard Form: Very large and very small numbers can be expressed in standard form (scientific notation).
Significant Figures: The number of significant figures indicates the precision of a measurement.
Decimal Places: Answers can be rounded to a specific number of decimal places.
